Project Proposal

The plan for my project was to plan and execute ten greeting/holiday or special occasion cards. I drew inspiration from a previous years Arts and Culture student who designed designs and labels for beer bottles. I thought to also create a design and in this case it is for greeting cards. The plan was first to come up with five to ten different drawings or painting designs that I could paint onto the cards directly. I started with my first three cards to paint the design as well as the message inside the cards. I think for the rest of the cards I am going to alternate painting directly onto the cards and then photocopying bigger paintings onto the smaller cards. This will allow diversity in the cards and also for them to have different looks. Inside each card there will also be a message which will vary with every card. For example, some will be holiday cards like Christmas and Hanukkah and some will be occasion cards like marriage or graduation. For most of the cards the images on the outside and the messages on the inside will have no clear correlation, which is kind of ironic and funny because it is a different way of portraying greeting cards and sort of makes fun of the stereotypical cards that have a clear correlation between their messages and their cover drawings. For example, when you go to a store to buy a Christmas card, they are usually cliché designs of Christmas.
